The Hail Creek open-cut mine is located 90km south west of Mackay in the Bowen Basin. It is managed by Rio Tinto Coal Australia on behalf of joint venture majority partner Queensland Coal Pty Ltd and three other minority partners.
Vista Hire has supplied vehicles to contractors working at this site and can prepare vehicles to comply with the requirements at Hail Creek Mine.

Other Safety Equipment
- VHF mine radio (specific programming required for this site)
- Fire extinguisher (with current inspection tag, charge and secured)
- Horn
- Reversing alarm (audible at 25m from rear of vehicle)
- Battery isolator (lockable)
First Aid Kit
All light vehicles are required to carry a first aid kit. The kit must not contain items that require sterilisation such as tweezers, splinter probes and drugs of any kind including analgesics and pain killers. The kit must not contain multiple use items that dispense from a tube. Spray containers are preferred due to the reduced risk of infection during use. The kit must contain disposable gloves and a resuscitation mouth piece.
Roll over / falling object protection
Light vehicles require
ROPS if frequently entering the mining area. The ROPS must comply with the current Australian Standard.
Maintenance Records
Maintenance records or inspection logs are required to provide evidence that the vehicle is maintained to a safe standard.
Weeds and foreign material
Light vehicles must be clean before entering the site to avoid the introduction of weeds to Hail Creek Mine and neighbouring land.
