HIRE A 4WD to work at LNG-CSG Sites
Vista Hire specialises in hiring vehicles ready to work at the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal seam gas (CSG) sites in the Surat Basin, Galilee Basin, Bowen Basin and beyond.
Gas Spec vehicles are used at LNG/CSG mine sites. There are several organisations who operate gas sites in Queensland, including QGC (British Gas), GLNG (Santos), APLNG (Origin Energy), Arrow Energy, and more, and each of these organisations has slightly different vehicle requirements. For example, Origin Energy has In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems as an optional requirement, but QGC has IVMS as a mandatory requirement.
As such, at Vista Hire, we have opted to build our gas spec cars to the most stringent of standards, so that you can be sure that the vehicle you hire is compliant.

If you have a detailed site specification and want to check that our vehicles meet that, then please send it through to us and we will confirm that our vehicle complies with your required standard.
In Vehicle Monitoring Systems
In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS) may be required when working at CSG / LNG sites. IVMS is an important safety tool used for monitoring and measuring driver performance, identifying lost or stranded vehicles, or reporting an accident.
The IVMS records several items that can all be compiled into IVMS reporting, including:
- Driver identification
- Vehicle speed
- Distance travelled
- Seat belt engaged
- Harsh braking
- 4WD engaged
- Time of journey.
At Vista Hire, we support the use of IVMS in vehicles because we have found that drivers who know their behaviour is being monitored are less likely to speed and more likely to wear their seat belt. As advocates for road safety, we support any tool that is going to encourage drivers to drive more safely. You can read more about why we support IVMS in our IVMS Case Study.
Vehicles travelling in the Surat Basin and Galilee Basin may need to be certified ‘weed free’ before entering work sites. Under the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002, vehicles that are driven in areas where weeds might be present, must be cleaned to assist in preventing their spread.
Vista Hire rents vehicles ready to work in the Surat Basin and Galilee Basin – this means our hire vehicles are compliant with the safety standards and we can arrange for Weed Hygiene Declarations or Certificates to be issued for your hire vehicle in Brisbane before you leave for site.
We now have our own in-house weed hygiene certifiers who are providing a final confirmation that the vehicle is ‘weed free’ before it leaves our depot. Read more about the Weed Hygiene process.
A SPECIAL NOTE ON TOWING and recovery
While all our vehicles are fitted with tow bars, some sites may not allow recovery of vehicles using a tow bar. According to the Queensland Natural Gas Exploration and Production Industry
Safety Forum (Safer Together), "the recovery of vehicles is a specialist capability so it is considered prudent to remove reference to recovery straps as unqualified staff may attempt the activity if the equipment is in the vehicle. The addition of recovery equipment should be considered on an individual basis by each company / contractor."
