BEFORE YOU HIRE A 4WD VEHICLE FROM VISTA HIRE

Is there a Minimum period of 4WD rental?

Yes and no. While we don’t have a specific minimum period, we do specialise in medium and long-term rentals. Our clients typically hire our vehicles for a month or more, but we also have some clients who only hire vehicles for a few days. Talk to us, and we’ll see if we can meet your needs.

Who can drive the vehicle?

If you are an individual hirer, when you collect the vehicle you must provide the drivers' licences of all people who will drive the vehicle. If the hirer is a company, an employee of the company is permitted to drive the vehicle while on company business.

All drivers must:

(a) Be over the age of 21;

(b) Hold a current Australian open driver’s license, or equivalent overseas international license;

(c) Not be under the influence of a drug, intoxicating liquor or substance; and

(d) Not have a blood alcohol limit exceeding the legal limit.

We do not charge fees for additional drivers - so there is no price difference between having one driver or two drivers - we just need to have a copy of all the drivers' licences. 

Is there a minimum driver age for hiring a 4WD rental vehicle?

Yes, the minimum age is 21.

What is the Standard Damage Liability Amount?

The standard damage liability amount is $4,400* - this is the maximum amount you will pay for damage to the Vista Hire vehicle or a third party vehicle (unless the terms and conditions of the rental agreement have been breached).

You can choose to reduce this damage liability amount to $550 by paying a the Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) fee. See our Damage Liability Options page for more information.

*If you are aged between 21 and 25, an additional Age Excess of $3,850 is also payable. Tyre and windscreen damage are not covered by this policy unless you pay an additional fee for Tyre and Windscreen Cover.

Where can I drive the 4WD vehicle?

Our 4WD vehicles are permitted for use on sealed and unsealed roads.

They are not permitted for use on ferries, water crossings, beaches or near salt waterways.

What are the Vehicle Pick Up Locations? Where do I Pick up the Vehicle?

Vista Hire is located at 5/27 Birubi Street, Coorparoo, Brisbane. We also have agents in Roma, Chinchilla, Miles, Dalby, and Toowoomba.

Vehicle collections are available from our depot during business hours (8am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

We can also arrange vehicle delivery to your office or project site in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, or Darling Downs (standard delivery charges apply).

If you need a vehicle outside of these locations though, talk to us and we can discuss delivery options with you.

Can I drive the 4WD on the beach?

No. Our vehicles are not permitted for use on ferries, water crossings, beaches or near salt waterways.

Why would I rent a 4WD for a long time when I could probably buy one?

When you purchase a vehicle, you inherit additional workload and additional cost. With a long-term rental from Vista Hire, we look after the registration, maintenance, servicing, and more. See more good reasons to rent.

Do you hire vehicles for underground mining?

No. Our vehicles are not permitted for use in underground mines. Our mine specification hire vehicles are specifically built for above-ground mines, including Kestrel Mine Extension, Hail Creek, Cameby Downs and more.

Do you hire ANCAP 5 star rated 4WD vehicles?

Yes, at Vista Hire, safety is our number one priority and our fleet is predominantly ANCAP 5 star rated 4WD vehicles.

Where is Vista Hire based?

We are based in Brisbane and generally hire vehicles ex Brisbane. We can arrange for vehicles to be delivered to other locations. Please contact us for a quote.

Do you hire vehicles for use on Moreton Island, Fraser Island, or Stradbroke Island?

No. Our vehicles not permitted for use on ferries, water crossings, beaches or near salt waterways.

Where can I get the hire vehicle delivered to?

We offer a vehicle delivery service for your hire vehicle to our clients in the Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Darling Downs regions. We will bring the hire vehicle to your office or project site, and complete the vehicle sign out paperwork on site. And when you’re ready to return your hire vehicle, if you don’t have time to bring it back, contact us about vehicle pickup from your site (standard delivery charges apply).

Can I put my own branding on the vehicle?

Yes, the Vista Hire branding on our vehicles is subtle and can be removed. You can apply your own branding to the vehicle with our approval.

 

Pricing and payment

How many free kilometres do I get when I hire a 4WD from Vista Hire?

Unlimited! We do not charge a mileage fee and all our rental agreements come with unlimited kilometres. We try to keep our fee structure simple and clear so there's no surprise costs at the end of the hire.

Is The Daily Hire Rate All Inclusive?

Yes. At Vista Hire, the daily hire rate you are quoted is all inclusive. That means there are no registration recovery fees, administration fees, fuel charges, extra driver charges etc etc. Read more in our article about comparing car hire bills.

What's the cheapest 4WD rate you offer?

Our 4WD hire rates start from as low as $76+GST per day for long-term hire on standard vehicles. To request a quote on the vehicle you need, call us on 1300 993 767 or complete the request a quote form.

I don't know exactly how long I need the 4x4 vehicle for, am I locked into a contract?

We offer different daily 4x4 hire rates for different lengths of time. So, if you need a vehicle for twelve months, you'll get a better rate than if you need a vehicle for one month. So if you're not sure if you need a vehicle for six or eight months, that's fine; just talk to us about a competitive price.

How much does a mine specification car cost to rent?

Each mine specification component carries a cost, so it depends on what mine specification options you require. For example, if you need reversing beepers and flashing lights only, that is a cheaper rate than a vehicle that is equipped with roll over protection structures (ROPS), LED highlights, and a site specific 2-way radio. If you require In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems (IVMS) or Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS), these carry an additional 'per day' charge - see our Rates page for prices. How do I pay for the 4WD rental?

For long-term hires with our business clients, we can set up a corporate account.

We invoice our clients at the end of each month or the end of the hire (whichever comes first).

We accept payment by electronic funds transfer, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Diners Club), or cheque. View our payment terms and options for more information.

What are the charges for vehicle delivery or pick up for my hire car?

Our standard delivery or pick up charges for your hire car are:

• Brisbane city, Brisbane airport, and suburbs within 35km of CBD - $66 (inc GST).

• Gold Coast, including the Gold Coast Hinterland, Almo, Carrara, Nerang - $198 (inc GST).

• Sunshine Coast, including, Caloundra, Maroochydore, Coolum - $220 (inc GST).

• Darling Downs, including Toowoomba, Clifton, Glenvale - $220 (inc GST).

Vehicle delivery and pickup is generally completed during business hours and subject to staff availability.

4WD Vehicle Options and Accessories

What accessory options do you offer?

Our hire vehicles can be equipped with a vast range of accessories and equipment including orange beacons, reflective stripes, in-vehicle monitoring systems (IVMS), first aid kits, fire extinguishers, second spare tyre, mine flag, recovery kit, and many more.

Do you hire cars that can drive on mine sites?

Yes we do. Vista Hire rents 4WDs fully equipped with mine specification accessories to meet the safety standards required by Queensland and New South Wales open cut mine sites, including BMA mine sites and Santos controlled sites. This can include roll over protection structures (ROPS), reversing beepers, orange rotating lights, in-vehicle monitoring systems (IVMS), collision avoidance systems (CAS) and more. Do the 4WDs have tow bars and if so, what's their towing capacity?

All our vehicles are fitted with tow bars.

The Toyota Hilux has a braked towing capacity of 2,250-2,500 kilograms (depending on model).

The Toyota Landcruiser has a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms.

The Toyota Prado has a braked towing capacity of 2,500 kilograms.

The Holden Colorado has a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms.

The Ford Ranger has a braked towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms.

Do you hire vehicles with Trailer Stability Control (TSC)?

Yes, our Ford Rangers are equipped with Trailer Stability Control (TSC) - an additional safety feature when towing using a trailer. The TSC automatically detects when an attached trailer starts to sway and brakes individual wheels to stabilise the vehicle and trailer. 

 

While the 4WD Car is on Hire

Is tyre and windscreen damage covered by the standard Damage Liability?

No. Tyre and windscreen damage are the responsibility of the hirer unless you elect to take out Tyre and Windscreen Cover for an additional daily fee at the time of the hire. See our Damage Liability Options page for prices.

Tyre and Windscreen Cover will cover the replacement or repair of the Vehicle’s windscreen or tyres where these were accidentally damaged. Windscreen and Tyre Cover does not apply to the Vehicle’s side windows or rear glass and is void you breach any other terms of the rental agreement.

I need to extend my vehicle hire. What do I do?

We understand that requirements change, so if you need to extend your hire, talk to us about whether the vehicle is available for extension - the more notice you can give us of a possible extension, the more likely the extension will be possible.

Do I need to return the vehicle clean?

Yes. If a vehicle is returned excessively dirty beyond normal road grime, extra cleaning charges may apply. The Cleaning Fees are:

(a) $55 - if we believe there is evidence of smoking in the Vehicle

(b) $75 - if we believe the Vehicle requires additional cleaning

(c) $275 - if we believe the Vehicle requires steam cleaning.

Why do I need to provide odometer readings?

We ask that you provide your odometer readings at least once per month. This helps us schedule maintenance. We will generally call or message you to arrange these.

What happens if the vehicle breaks down?

Our vehicles are covered by 24 hour roadside assistance. For towing, batteries, fuel, and lockouts, call RACQ Fleet Care on 1800 648 058. The Vista Hire account number is located on the key tag of your vehicle.

What happens if we have an accident in the rented 4WD?

If the Vehicle is involved in an accident, you must:

(a) record the time, date, and location of the accident;

(b) record the other parties’ full names, addresses, driver’s licence number, vehicle registrations, car types, and insurance companies; record any property damage in circumstances where the accident did not involve another motor vehicle;

(c) not admit liability (and ensure that the driver does not admit liability);

(d) notify the nearest police station within 24 hours of the accident (if required*);

(e) promptly report the accident within 24 hours to Vista hire; and

(f) if required by Vista, fully complete and sign and accident report claim in a form specified by Vista.

What happens if I receive a traffic infringement?

Traffic infringements will be forwarded to the nominated driver whose details we hold on file, unless you notify us that someone else was driving. An administration fee will be charged to your account to cover our legal expenses. If you think your rental vehicle has been involved in a traffic offence, please contact Vista Hire before the notice is issued.

Are the 4WD vehicles equipped with motorway toll tags?

Yes, our vehicles are equipped with motorway toll tags. For long-term clients, we charge a monthly Toll Management fee for this service.

For short-term clients, we process the tolls after they are received and charge the credit card used for hire (this could be up to one month after the hire).
